The thing I love about starting work with thumbnail sketches is that they always carry the emotion you want to get across. I can always do another pass, put them on model, etc. But, if I ever find the drawing I am doing doesn’t have that spark I’m looking for, I always go look to my original sketch to get me back on track. Rapunzel and Flynn in under a minute.
Tangled Christmas Tree!! I’ve been collecting ornaments and i felt like i had enough (i unfortunately don’t have them all, still working on it) to put on a Christmas tree with the lanterns that I painted, a string of flowers, and a golden flower (made by me) on top! a very Tangled Christmas!
Happy Valentine’s day! Lots of chocolate and ice cream!

Disney Thoughts: Mother Gothel’s Death
This may have been talked about before, but I just wanted to point out how absolutely perfect Gothel’s death was. It was possibly the most fitting death to a Disney villain besides Frollo, and here’s why I think so.
Eugene cuts Rapunzel’s hair with a glass shard. It didn’t have to be that, the writers could have easily made Gothel drop the knife and he could have used that. But they made it so that he cut Rapunzel’s hair with a broken piece of mirror, the same mirror Gothel has been looking at herself into for the past 18 years, the same mirror that represents her vanity and selfishness. In the perfect metaphor, she was killed by her own vanity. But then it only gets better.
When she starts to rapidly grow old, she looks in the mirror again to see what was happening to her. What she gets to see is a hundred skeletal monsters looking back at her. She sees what she was trying so hard not to be, and she sees it tenfold. She sees her true self, she sees the the panic and hatred and death in her eyes. And that is the last thing she ever gets to see. After this horrific image, she pulls the hood over her eyes before falling and turning to dust.
Gothel had the one of the most brutal deaths specifically for her character, and it was a risk that paid of because the writers created perfect justice in this scene. This just makes me respect the writers of this movie that much more.
