Here you see a progression of work on a drawing I did of Rapunzel. Starting with my original rough sketch, my cleaned up drawing and finally on actual product. The fun thing is sometimes doing drawings and not knowing how they will be used or where they will end up! In some cases artwork is created for a specific purpose. Usually that is the case if it’s a 3D item like a figurine, snow globe or ornament. Sometimes art is needed for a specific art series like the “Art of Ariel” program I worked on. Other times character art is created to be used in a variety of ways. For this, I try to capture the likeness and spirit of the character in a pose (or poses) that could be used on anything from a t-shirt, stationary, towel, plates, mugs or even packaging. It’s the life a single drawing takes on after you are done with it that makes it exciting.
